David is an experienced employment and industrial relations lawyer. Before joining the bar, he practised as a solicitor for 28 years. He became a partner of Blake Dawson Waldron in Sydney, and subsequently was a legal consultant at Ashurst. He commenced his professional career as an industrial relations officer with BHP.
He has advised a wide variety of private sector and Commonwealth and NSW government clients in all areas relating to employment, industrial relations and discrimination/human rights law. He has also advised many not-for-profit organisations in the social, community and disability services sector, and assisted community legal aid centres and their clients. He has prosecuted underpayment and breach of workplace legislation matters, and also represented respondents in these types of matters before federal courts.
David is experienced in the Federal industrial relations jurisdiction and has advised clients and conducted proceedings before courts and tribunals in matters like minimum statutory and award entitlements, enterprise bargaining and industrial action, general protections/adverse action, unfair dismissal, conciliation and arbitration of industrial disputes, workplace bullying, transfer of business, right of entry, industrial organisations, and compliance and enforcement. He has particular expertise in the NSW industrial relations system and the laws applicable to NSW Government agencies. He has also advised in relation to independent contractor arrangements under Commonwealth and State laws.
David has advised clients in a wide range of industry sectors - manufacturing and distribution, road and rail transport, maritime, utilities, food and beverage, insurance, health, government services, social, community and disability services, and technology.
He is an experienced advocate and has conducted workplace and human rights related matters before Federal and State courts, and industrial and administrative tribunals.
